I set goals for my human…
I regularly get that spark of potential.
You know, when the whole plan comes together and you see it all working out perfectly?!
I love that. And I could hang out there all day, but then I have a child tug on my leg or someone yelling "Mom".
Because I know that life happens, I make 3 sets of goals. It may seem like a lot at first, but I promise it will absolutely help if you put it into action.
My goal categories are - predictable, possible, and potential.
I'll walk through my process using time as an example.
Let's say I want to train for an endurance race, like the 1/2 Ironman I am currently training for.
In the potential, I would love to have 4 hours a day to set aside for training.
Then I think okay, 4 hours a day is the potential when all things go according to my plan, but if stuff comes up and I don't navigate things well, I can possibly commit about 2 hours a day.
Next, I get really, real with myself. If nothing goes according to my plan and all chaos ensures, I can commit to 30 minutes a day for training. This will not always be the case, but this is my nonnegotiable. And this becomes my predictable goal.
Predictable- 30 minutes
Possible- 2 hours
Potential- 4 hours
There are days when the potential happens, days when the possible occurs, and of course days when predictable is what happens.
Regardless, each day becomes a building block for success and I never beat myself up or lose momentum and am always on track to create my potential.
