Simply saying affirmations on repeat will not change your life.
Yes, affirmations can be useful, but change requires you to change more than just the words you say- your actions must reflect the change.
The problem with affirmations is they don’t get to the root of the issue. It’s like just putting new paint on a house that has a crumbling foundation.
For change to last, the foundation (aka your system of beliefs) must change as well.
And this is where things can feel hard, because we often don’t know what beliefs we live by since much of what we do it actually habitual.
So how can we begin to change?
1. Awareness. We cannot change what we are not aware of, so we must start with simply recognizing the habit we want to change.
2. Decide. Once we know what we want to change, we have to decide to do things differently.
3. Choice. Change comes about from our daily decisions, so to be healthy is a decision I make every day and then I choose things that are in line with living healthy- exercising, eating well, etc.
4. Adapt. Life is going to happen and we could get easily derailed by the happenings around us, but by making small incremental changes over time, we are able to truly create lasting change and small changes are easily adaptable to life.
