“I’m afraid I’ll get hurt again.”

“I’m afraid I’ll get hurt again.”

I was on a call with a client the other day and I asked him, why he was struggling to commit to a fitness goal.

His answer, “I’m afraid I’ll get hurt again.”

I can totally appreciate the honest here. I’ve had some pretty serious injuries (both emotional and physical) over the years and it can feel scary to “get back in the saddle” so to speak.

(I chuckle a little because one of my injuries was from being bucked off my horse. I digress)…

When we fail or get hurt doing something we can begin to create resistance around doing the thing or even something similar. We build up all these stories about how we could get hurt and ration that it’s safer to do nothing.

For my client, I suggested he figure out a fitness goal that would be challenging and also enjoyable.

And he did.

When I spoke to him again, his new goal was nothing like the one that had caused him an injury and he was so excited about it that he already had a detailed training schedule.

Stop letting fear run your life, instead do something simply for the joy of it.
